The journal club is an initiative by the InfoLab (organized by Anastasia and Inga) and exists to create a dedicated space for discussing research in computational social science (CSS).
For each session, one person is volunteering to be the chair. The chair decides on a paper they would like to bring up for a group discussion. (Note: We will alternate readings of the classics with modern theoretical, methodological, or empirical contributions in CSS. We suggest the year 2000 as a rule of thumb for distinguishing between classics and modern CSS research.) While signing up to chair a session happens at the beginning of the semester, the chair should suggest the reading two weeks in advance of the journal club meeting. The chair starts the session with a short 5-minute summary of the reading they suggested and prepares questions for facilitating the discussion (if necessary). Journal club attendees are expected to familiarize themselves with the reading materials to the degree that their schedule permits.
